  2. St. Rose Health Center Blood Screening

    July 23, 6:30 AM - 9:00 AM

    St. Rose Health Center staff members and volunteers will be on hand from 6:30 to 9 a.m. Saturday, July 23 for the next blood screenings. The public is encouraged to attend the walk-in event. Services include a $25 blood profile that entails a complete blood count; comprehensive analysis of more than 20 blood chemistries; lipid profile for a breakdown of cholesterol and triglyceride numbers; and a thyroid test. Fasting for 10-12 hours is highly recommended for a blood profile. However, fasting is not necessary for the other three tests at the screening. These tests include the $25 Vitamin D test; $16 PSA that checks a man’s prostate; and the $7.50 HGBA1C test for diabetes. It is not necessary to have a doctor’s referral or an appointment. Results will be mailed 5-7 business days after the tests and patients can give the results to their doctors if they choose. Cash and checks are accepted.

  5. Back to School Drive for Barton County

    July 25 - August 6

    Summertime means back to school is right around the corner! This year the Salvation Army will again be hosting a back to school drive for Barton County. The drive will start the beginning of July and run until August 7th with drop off locations around town including The Salvation Army Store, The Great Bend Chamber of Commerce, and Marmie's of Great Bend. The Salvation Army does not provide all of the school supplies that they will need. However, we would like to include all of the following if donations allow pencils, highlighters, markers, notebooks, notebook paper, binders, school bags, dry erase markers, erasers, crayons, scissors, boxes of facial tissue, and pocket folders. Sign up for the backpacks will run from July 25th to August 6th. Distributions of the bags will be August 9 at The Best Western Inn in Great Bend. If you are interested in volunteering, making a donation, or would like to sign up please stop by 2545 10th St. in Great Bend or call 620.792.4299.

The Great Bend Public Library offers a free story time every Tuesday at 11 a.m. and every Friday at 10 a.m. for kids ages three through Kindergarten. In story time, we read books, practice school readiness skills through crafts, and get used to hanging out with other kids our own age. It's okay if the kids can't sit still yet. Sitting still is hard work, and something we will all practice and learn together!

If so, we have a night set up for people interested in playing horseshoes so individuals can get together and enjoy a fun evening playing horseshoes.
