    Golden Belt Home Health & Hospice (GBHH&H) will sponsor a Monday evening grief support group in Great Bend from May 5 through June 30. from Aug. 18 through Oct. 13. It will meet each Monday (except Labor Day) from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in Conference Room 103 of the Medical Building at 3520 Lakin in Great Bend. Hospice Chaplain John Grummon and GBHH&H Social Worker Cathy Soeken will lead the group “Cathy and I will guide the participants, and help them provide support to one another,” Grummon said. “This group setting is a comforting place to share and learn new ways to approach grief.” All discussions are confidential. Anyone interested in attending the grief support group may contact Grummon or Soeken for further details by calling 620-792-8171.

    The Barton County Commission will meet in Room 106 at the Courthouse. These meetings are held each Monday morning at 9 a.m. (except holidays) and are open to the public.

  5. Blood Drive @ St. Rose Auditorium

    September 16, 11:15 AM - 6:30 PM @ Auditorium at St. Rose, Broadway & Baker

    The American Red Cross will be in the Auditorium at St. Rose, Broadway & Baker, on Monday, September 16th , from 11:15 am to 6:30 pm for a Blood Drive. The Red Cross needs new donors as well as those who give regularly. Your one donation can help as many as three different hospital patients. Donors must be 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in good health. They cannot have a history of viral Hepatitis after age 10, and individuals with behavior patterns and activities that place them at risk for AIDS will be deferred.     St. Rose Ambulatory & Surgery Center will host bi-monthly Lab Fairs on the first and third Fridays of every month; except for major holidays, from 7AM to 8AM at Community Bank, 2220 Broadway. Lab Fair participants must be at least 18 years old and payment is either by check or cash. Fasting after 10 p.m. is recommended in most cases and no referrals are required. Tests available include cholesterol; blood type; PSA screen; hemoglobin A1C; TSH; Profiles A, B and C with different combinations of testing; comprehensive chemistry profile; and liver panel.     Barton Community College’s Workforce Training and Economic Development department will host the “All About Careers!” event from 9:15 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, September 24 to showcase the college’s workforce training programs. Superintendents, principals, counselors, prospective students and parents are welcome to attend. Lunch will be served from 11:30 – noon during a Q-and-A session at the end of the event. There is no cost to attend. The event will highlight the Natural Gas, Computer Aided Drafting, Automotive, Agriculture, Early Childhood and Manufacturing Skills programs. There will be short information sessions with the coordinators of each program. There will also be tours of all the facilities for each program. Those wanting to attend will need to RSVP by visiting allaboutcareers.bartonccc.edu.
