  2. FOCB Winter Program: Destination: Galapogos Islands program by Bob Gress

    February 7, 3:00 PM @ Kansas Wetlands Education Center, 592 NE K-156 Highway, Great Bend, KS

    From blue-footed boobies and penguins to other-worldly vistas and ancient volcanoes, award-winning photographer Bob Gress captured it all during a recent trip to the Galapagos Islands, one of the world’s foremost wildlife-viewing destinations. Gress will share his photographs and impressions during a presentation for the Friends of Cheyenne Bottoms winter program, 3 p.m. on Feb. 7 at the Kansas Wetlands Education Center. Come and learn more about the FOCB. Join FOCB that day and you will be entered in a drawing to win the coffee table book, “Birds of Kansas”. Current FOCB members bringing a new member are also eligible for the drawing. The large-format book, highlighted with professional-quality color photographs and maps, depicts 473 bird species documented in Kansas.

  3. GBPL Maker Space Mondays and GBPL Teen Movie Mondays

    Each Monday afternoon, the staff at the Great Bend Public Library will host a "Maker Space Monday" for 1st through 6th grade students to come and learn how to make all sorts of fascinating things. This includes art projects, science experiments, and even delicious snacks. The program lasts about one hour and begins each Monday at 4 p.m. Each Monday evening, join the Great Bend Public Library for a Teen Movie Monday. Movie will vary weekly. This event is open to teens in grades 7-12 starting at 4:00 PM and will be located in the lower level meeting room.

In story time, we read books, practice school readiness skills through crafts, and get used to hanging out with other kids our own age. It's okay if the kids can't sit still yet. Sitting still is hard work, and something we will all practice and learn together! The Great Bend Public Library facilitates a "Baby and Me" activity each Tuesday at 10 a.m. for children ages birth to three years of age. Bring your little explorer for interactive fun. We read stories, experiment through sensory activities, and get to know other babies. The activity lasts about thirty minutes.

    Technology Roundtable luncheons give tech-savvy professionals or curious lifelong learners an opportunity to keep up with trends and developments in business technology. The next Technology Roundtable Luncheon will take place on Wednesday, February 10th in the Spray-Holt Family Board Room at the Chamber Office, 1125 Williams, starting at 11:30 a.m. The topic for this guided discussion will be Windows 10 - Demo & Discussion. Lunch will be catered, and cost per person will be $15. The fee will include the meal, a beverage, and the discussion handouts. His song "Somewhere in My Broken Heart" was nominated for a Grammy and went on to become the Academy of Country Music’s Song of the Year in 1992. The song also earned him his first platinum album and Country Music’s Top New Male Vocalist of the Year award. All concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Great Bend Municipal Auditorium, Lakin and Stone.     Do you like to create? Then this is the day for you! Nature gives us all kinds of wonderful materials?so we’re going to use them at the KWEC to create some wild crafts. Then around Noon were going to head back to the Activity Center for some pizza. The afternoon will be full of games and other organized activities. Please drop off and pick up your children at the Activity Center (2715 18th St.). USD 428 students will bus to and from the KWEC.
