The Water Division is a division of the Public Works Department.
The Water Division is responsible for:
- The connection and disconnection of water service
- Maintenance and repair of:
- Water meters
- Water valves
- Fire hydrants
- All water service and maintenance at the Great Bend Municipal Airport and Industrial Park Area
The City of Great Bend obtains their water from ground water supply through deep wells. There are 10 wells within the City that supply this water to its citizens.
The water from these wells is pumped or forced directly into our distribution system and not stored previous to actual use by the customer. Great Bend is one of the few cities in central Kansas that does not have a water treatment plant or water tower.
The Water Division is also responsible for all water service and maintenance at the Great Bend Municipal Airport and Industrial Park Area. The water supply at the Airport is pumped from two wells into a 750,000 gallon water tower. There is also a 125,000 gallon reserve tank for fire backup if necessary.
