Part-Time Employment

Firefighter/EMT/Fire Department
The City of Great Bend is currently accepting applications for a part-time (volunteer) Firefighter/EMT. Primary responsibilities include fire protection and EMS response/transport. Applicants will operate firefighting and ambulance equipment and participate in fire prevention programs, public education and fire inspections. Applicants will also make ambulance and rescue runs and be responsible for station maintenance and training activities.This position requires a thorough knowledge of the operation and maintenance of equipment and principles of fire science, EMS, and department operations. It also requires the ability to follow written and oral instructions, read and understand technical manuals, effectively communicate with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public, and exercise independent judgment. Successful candidates should have a high school diploma or GED and be 18 years of age or older. In addition, applicants must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license and EMT certification prior to hire. Associate Zookeeper/Great Bend Brit Spaugh Zoo
The City of Great Bend is currently accepting applications for a part-time  Associate Zookeeper. This position will be responsible for the daily care, diet preparation, feeding, observation and documentation of the animals in the zoo. May also perform general grounds maintenance such as mowing and trimming, along with the development and maintenance of proper animal housing and habitat. Hours for this position will range from 20 to 29 hrs. per week.  May also require working on some evenings, weekends, and holidays. Qualification preference is graduation from a two-year technical or community college with an equivalent number of college credit hours in an animal-related or animal behavior-related field, plus intern experience in the care, feeding, and handling of a variety of exotic animals. Individuals without a degree may be considered only with two or more years of full-time experience at the minimum level of zookeeper involved in the exhibition and husbandry of a variety of exotic animals. Full-Time Employment

 

Police Officer - Canine Handler/Great Bend Police Department
The City of Great Bend is currently accepting applications for  a Police Officer - Canine Handler. Primary responsibilities include patrol work, assisting with the prevention of crime and the enforcement of traffic laws and regulations. All aspects of police work will be involved, including responding to dispatches, investigations, report preparation, making arrests, issuing citations, etc. Will also be responsible for the care and handling of a trained police dog  to be used in narcotics and evidence searches, criminal apprehension and control, etc.  Successful candidates should have a high school diploma or GED and must be at least 21 years of age. Some college level work in law enforcement is desirable. In addition, candidate must possess a valid driver’s license and have at least two years of certified law enforcement experience. Applicants should have the temperament and suitability for dog handler duties and the ability to provide care  and  a home for a police dog.  Applicants will be subject to written and physical agility tests, an oral interview, a thorough background check, and additional conditional job testing. Applicants must not have any Brady/Giglio material in their background that would make them ineligible for hiring. Detective Secretary/Evidence Custodian (GBPD)
The City of Great Bend Police Department is currently accepting applications for a Detective Secretary/Evidence Custodian.  Will perform basic clerical responsibilities including computer input, filing, answering the phone, etc. In addition, will be responsible for properly storing evidence, maintaining proper chain of custody records, safekeeping of the property room, etc. Successful candidates should have a high school diploma or GED. At least one year’s experience in business, typing, word processing, bookkeeping, etc. would be helpful. Proficiency in the use of the computer is essential for this position. Good public relations skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality will be necessary for this position. Must be able to successfully pass a thorough background check in order to be considered as a candidate for this position. Service Person 1/Street Department
The City of Great Bend is currently accepting applications for a Service Person I at the Street Department. Primary responsibilities include skilled and semi-skilled duties related to the maintenance, construction, and repair of streets, roadways, alleys, ditches, dikes, and other public works facilities and/or projects. This position requires the ability to successfully operate light vehicles and trucks, tractors and other equipment incidental to the work. Successful candidate will also help install signs, paint, perform building and facilities maintenance, assist with snow removal from city streets, mow, assist with street repairs, etc. Position requires working outdoors and involves occasional heavy physical activity. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Some experience in construction and maintenance work, including experience in the operation of equipment is preferred. Position requires a valid Kansas CDL or the ability to obtain a CDL within a specified timeframe. Service Person I/Water Department

The City of Great Bend is currently accepting applications for a Service Person I in the Water Department. Primary responsibilities include assisting with the repair, replacement, and installation of water services. Other duties include flushing and repair of fire hydrants, completing daily work orders for customers, collection and mailing of water samples, etc.. Position requires the ability to communicate effectively with fellow employees, supervisors, and the public, operate certain types of equipment, and perform heavy manual labor in all types of weather conditions. Successful candidates should have a high school diploma or GED and possess a valid Kansas driver’s license. Some experience in construction and maintenance work is preferable.
