Seasonal Positions

Lifeguards/Concessions/Wetlands Water Park
The City of Great Bend Public Lands Department is currently accepting applications for lifeguards and cashiers/concessionaires at the Wetlands at Great Bend for the 2017 summer season. Primary responsibilities for lifeguards include ensuring the safety of all patrons by practicing preventative lifeguarding. Must be familiar with and enforce all rules and regulations of the facility. Must be at least 16 years of age, possess good public relations and communications skills, and be able to obtain lifeguard certification and CPR/first aid certification prior to pool opening. Primary responsibilities for cashiers/concessionaires include operating a cash register, collecting admission or concession fees, balancing cash drawers, preparation of food and drinks sold through the concession area, cleaning, etc. Must be at least 15 years of age. Part-Time Employment

Firefighter/EMT/Fire Department
The City of Great Bend is currently accepting applications for a part-time (volunteer) Firefighter/EMT. Primary responsibilities include fire protection and EMS response/transport. Applicants will operate firefighting and ambulance equipment and participate in fire prevention programs, public education and fire inspections. Applicants will also make ambulance and rescue runs and be responsible for station maintenance and training activities.This position requires a thorough knowledge of the operation and maintenance of equipment and principles of fire science, EMS, and department operations. It also requires the ability to follow written and oral instructions, read and understand technical manuals, effectively communicate with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public, and exercise independent judgment. Successful candidates should have a high school diploma or GED and be 18 years of age or older. In addition, applicants must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license and EMT certification prior to hire. Service Person I/Wastewater Treatment Plant (Collections)
The City of Great Bend is currently accepting applications for a Service Person I at the Water Pollution Control Division. Primary responsibilities include skilled and semi-skilled duties related to the operation and maintenance of the wastewater collection system. This position requires the ability to perform duties such as the cleaning and rehabilitation of sewer lines, utility locates, operation of water tank trucks, water jet cleaners, pumps, and generators, works with the public regarding sewer stoppage complaints, etc. Also assists in performing pump station inspections and maintenance. Position requires working outdoors and involves occasional heavy physical activity. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Some experience in construction work including the operation of equipment is preferred. Position requires a valid Kansas CDL or the ability to obtain a CDL within a specified timeframe. Service person I/Wastewater Treatment Plant (Plant)
The City of Great Bend is currently accepting applications for a Service Person I at the Water Pollution Control Division. Primary responsibilities include duties related to the operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment facility. This position requires the ability to perform maintenance and repair of pumps, motors, and related equipment; understand technical manuals and other records; monitor gauges, meters, and control panels; operate valves and gates; maintain appropriate recordkeeping; perform routine maintenance, etc. Position requires working outdoors and involves occasional heavy physical activity. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Position requires a valid Kansas CDL or the ability to obtain a CDL within a specified timeframe. Detective Secretary/Evidence Custodian (GBPD)
The City of Great Bend Police Department is currently accepting applications for a Detective Secretary/Evidence Custodian.  Will perform basic clerical responsibilities including computer input, filing, answering the phone, etc. In addition, will be responsible for properly storing evidence, maintaining proper chain of custody records, safekeeping of the property room, etc. Successful candidates should have a high school diploma or GED. At least one year’s experience in business, typing, word processing, bookkeeping, etc. would be helpful. Proficiency in the use of the computer is essential for this position. Good public relations skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality will be necessary for this position. Must be able to successfully pass a thorough background check in order to be considered as a candidate for this position. Service Person 1/Street Department
The City of Great Bend is currently accepting applications for a Service Person I at the Street Department. Primary responsibilities include skilled and semi-skilled duties related to the maintenance, construction, and repair of streets, roadways, alleys, ditches, dikes, and other public works facilities and/or projects. This position requires the ability to successfully operate light vehicles and trucks, tractors and other equipment incidental to the work. Successful candidate will also help install signs, paint, perform building and facilities maintenance, assist with snow removal from city streets, mow, assist with street repairs, etc. Position requires working outdoors and involves occasional heavy physical activity. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Some experience in construction and maintenance work, including experience in the operation of equipment is preferred. Position requires a valid Kansas CDL or the ability to obtain a CDL within a specified timeframe. Police Officer/Police Department
The City of Great Bend is currently accepting applications for  Police Officers. Primary responsibilities include patrol work, assisting with the prevention of crime and the enforcement of traffic laws and regulations. All aspects of police work will be involved, including responding to dispatches, investigations, report preparation, making arrests, issuing citations, etc. Successful candidates should have a high school diploma or GED and must be at least 21 years of age. Some college level work in law enforcement is desirable. In addition, candidate must possess a valid driver’s license and the ability to achieve basic law enforcement certification by the State of Kansas within one year of appointment. Applicants will be subject to written and physical agility tests, an oral interview, a thorough background check, and additional conditional job testing. Applicants must not have any Brady/Giglio material in their background that would make them ineligible for hiring.
