- Crime Stoppers
Program - 1.800.305.1300. Persons who furnish information leading
to an arrest or charges of an offender are offered anonymity and cash rewards.
- Police Play
Day -
The Great Bend Police Department has celebrated over 20 years of offering
an annual Police Play Day to children in the community. The purpose of the
program is to allow children a unique opportunity to interact with law enforcement
officials in a positive setting. Programs have involved obstacles courses,
games, relays, drug and safety awareness, family magic shows, and bicycle
safety clinics. (see youth

- Police Citizen's
Advisory Committee - The committee provides a forum for obtaining
input about the delivery of police services.
- Drug Abuse
Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) classes - taught in all 5th grade
classes in USD 428. Specially trained officers also provide educational
programs to students of all ages.
- Community realtions

- Citizen's Police
Academy
- Allows adults in the community a behind the scenes look a the many faces
of Police work. Participants learn about accident and crime scene investigation
and patrol duties. Participants also patrol with officers and have a session
at the shootong range.
- Bicycle Patrol
Unit - Officers patrol on bicycles and assist with community events.
- America's Promise
- The Great Bend Police Department is committed to America's Promise, a
local mentoring program involving third and fourth grade students.(more

- Community Youth
Forum - The Police Department is active in the Great Bend High
School Community Youth Forum. The purpose of the forum is to allow students
to voice their opinions and concerns about community issues that relate
directly to them. The Police Chief, officers, and other community leaders
meet twice monthly with area high school students for "rap" sessions.
The forum allows adults to gain input on school and social demands as well
as problems facing high school students.
- D.A.R.E. /
I'm a Winner Program - The Police Department and KSNC TV have teamed
up to remind students about the importance of remaining drug-free. Winners
drawn on nightly news casts receive a D.A.R.E. / I'm a Winner T-shirt. Monthly
winners receive a party for their entire classroom and a ride in the D.A.R.E.

Award - This
award, sponsored by the Police Department, Great Bend Optimist, Eagle Radio,
The Great Bend Tribune and KSNC TV award citizens for setting extraordinary
examples of heroism within the community.
