Human Resources Changes during COVID

HR story

Covid-19 has changed life for all of us!  At the City, we are working hard to stay on top of the information needed to keep our staff safe yet continuing to work.   We have made arrangements to rotate staff to help with social distancing and we have also set up certain employees to have the ability to work from home.  Like many organizations, we are utilizing online meeting technology in an order to have our needed meetings yet not gather in one location.

Initially, there was updated information coming out daily and it was challenging to make sure we were staying on top of all the changes.  As a part of the “CARES” bill that was enacted by Congress, “Extended Paid Sick Leave” and “Extended Family Medical Leave” are offered to employees who meet certain criteria.  This allows employees who are diagnosed with or have been exposed to the Coronavirus the ability to stay at home for up to 14 days and continue to be paid.  For those employees who have childcare concerns due to school or daycare cancellation related to the virus, the” Extended Family Medical Leave” allows them the ability to receive 2/3rd pay while they are off up to 12 weeks to take care of their child/children.

We have also made accrued “Injury Leave” accessible to employees for time off issues related to the Coronavirus.   Our goal is to work to keep staff on the job, handling daily duties as well as keep everyone healthy and abide by the directions coming from local and state officials.  These are challenging times and we are committed to taking care of our staff all the while fulfilling our daily duties to the Citizens of Great Bend.

We have frozen hiring for some positions due to the economic downturn caused by the current situation, but we do still have some openings we are working to fill.  For a current list of openings with The City of Great Bend go to www.greatbendks.net and click on the “Jobs” tab.

The City offers competitive pay and excellent employee benefits!  If you have questions, please call Randy Keasling, Director of Human Resources at 793-4111 or email rkeasling@greatbendks.net.

The City of Great Bend is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
