The commissioners conduct an agenda session at 9 a.m. After the agenda meeting, the commissioners conduct study sessions. Study sessions provide an opportunity for the commissioners to discuss items that may appear in future agenda sessions. Citizens are invited and encouraged to attend both agenda and study sessions.   5. Barton County Historical Society Meeting

    May 21, 2018, 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM

    The meeting is free and open to the public. Sons of the Plains Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution President Justin Engleman will have the program at 7:30 p.m., Monday, May 21, 2018 at the Barton County Historical Society. He will talk about the various projects of the society and also give insight into the membership requirements. Goals of the 129 year-old patriotic organization include promoting patriotism, and building respect for American history and the founding fathers. The SAR also supports veterans in VA hospitals, the Boy Scouts and ROTC cadets. Awards and scholarships are also given to students who win orations and poster contests on patriotic topics. One of the SAR’s newest programs is to select an American History Teacher and send the winner to the Freedoms Foundation Teacher Workshop in Valley Forge, Pa.
