Volunteering at the zoo is a great way to combine a love for animals and people. If you enjoy the outdoors, then this is the place for you! We have a number of volunteering opportunities available:

General Volunteer
Our volunteers help us with a variety of tasks including (but not limited to) diet preparation, grounds maintenance (raking, horticulture) and exhibit upkeep. Volunteers help keep our grounds looking great for the visitors as well as the animals!
Internships
During the summer the Great Bend Brit Spaugh Zoo can accommodate 1-2 interns. Must be a student or recent graduate and interested in the career of zookeeping. All internships are unpaid positions and housing is the responsibility of the intern. Course credit may be offered on a case by case basis. You must be willing to commit a minimum of 20 hours/week for 12 weeks. As an intern you will get more hands-on experience and discover what it takes to work in a zoological setting.
Community Volunteering
Whether you are involved in boy/girl scouts, a church organization, or any other charitable group, feel free to spend a day helping at the zoo! We can offer your group or organization a day of volunteering at the zoo and show you what it’s like to maintain a zoological park!
Special Events
The Great Bend Brit Spaugh Zoo hosts a variety of events for the community throughout the year and needs help to make them happen! If you’re looking for something a little less physically demanding, then this is the opportunity for you! Call the zoo for a list of upcoming events!
If you have any questions, please contact the Zoo at 620-793-4226 or e-mail our volunteer coordinator.
