Members of the Kiwanis Club, Great Bend City Council and City of Great Bend staff met at Heizer Park on Friday morning to recognize the Kiwanis Club’s $30,000 shade structure donation as a part of the park’s improvement plan.
The shade structure will be similar to the one found at the splash pad with dimensions of 20 ’x 30’. It will feature a different color scheme, the Kiwanis Club logo and Kiwanis Pavillion lettering.
Updates to Heizer Park also include a nearly completed new restroom facility, Musco mini-pitch courts and new netting behind the goals on the 55-yard by 80-yard soccer field. The Musco mini-pitch courts have already seen great usage with recent tournaments hosted on weekends as teams from surrounding areas of Salina and Wichita have traveled to compete.
Irrigation lines have been installed for the final phase of the project. The City of Great Bend is teetering towards the end of the nearly $360,000 Heizer Park improvement project with plans to wrap up in the next month and a half.
Basketball courts, sand volleyball, a picnic facility and playground are also offered at Heizer Park. For questions about Heizer Park and its improvements please call city hall at 620-793-4111.
