Service Animal Policy

Pets are not allowed on zoo property, but we do allow trained service animals to enter the public areas of the zoo. According to the ADA, a service animal is defined as dogs or miniature horses “that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities.”

  • examples: guiding the blind, alerting the deaf, assisting a wheelchair, alerting a person having a seizure, alerting someone to take medication or calming a person with PTSD

An animal whose sole purpose is to provide emotional support DOES NOT qualify as a service animal under the ADA.  WE DO NOT ALLOW EMOTIONAL SUPPORT ANIMALSWe can provide a copy of the ADA requirements for service animals upon request.

If you are bringing a trained service animal into the zoo, you must follow these guidelines:

  • If you notice that a zoo animal is agitated (pacing, lunging) by the presence of your service animal, please move away from the exhibit.
  • Please maintain physical control of the service animal at all times
    • must be on a fixed leash, harness, or tethered line at all times
      • unless specifically required for disability
  • You will be asked to leave if your service animal:
    • urinates/defecates in the building or you do not clean up after your animal in outdoor areas
    • jumps on/runs towards people or other animals
    • barks/growls/lunges at people or other animals
  • We reserve the right to not allow service animals to be present at Live Animal Shows as there is not a barrier present to protect our animals or the service animal.
